Last week I was invited to try something that I thought was only an Instagram dream…a doughnut ice cream cone! When Datz Dough reached out and asked me if I wanted a special preview, I thought “Sure, why shouldn’t I eat a Nutella lined doughnut ice cream cone at 8am on a Thursday?”
So, I invited along my very convenient professional photographer friend, Adria Rebbecchi, (www.adriarebbecchiphotography.com) – all the photos in this post are hers- and got to eating!
How was it? Amazing. If any restaurant in the Tampa Bay area could pull this off, it was definitely Datz Dough. The doughnut cone itself was a soft cinnamon sugar cone that was delicious all on its own, but lined with Nutella…YUM. I may be biased though, you could put Nutella on just about anything and I would eat it.
Then, there was the ice cream: Jelly Doughnut flavored. I’m not going to lie, I was a little skeptical when I heard the flavor, but I was sold after first bite and could have eaten a gallon of it. Topped with bacon caramel popcorn, cotton candy, whipped cream and a cherry…mind blown. Admittedly, it was a little too much sugar for breakfast. That being said, I have absolutely no regrets, it was worth every bite and I would 110% do it again.
Lucky for you, what was originally a one day special is now a permanent menu item! Every week, Datz Dough will announce the special doughnut-inspired ice cream flavor of the week on their social media!
